After working at IBM as a research scientist for 27 years, Marcel Vogel turned his attention from magnetic disks and magnetic strips to another type of information storage system--quartz crystals. Designing an iconic cut crystal form (the ‘Vogel-Cut’), he travelled throughout the US and Europe, giving lectures and workshops on its use. Records are Written in Stone uses Vogel’s workshops, papers, and interviews as a starting point for a series of works that engage the mysteries and aesthetics of an occult science.
